Hanging Puzzle

Ugh, that puzzle room in my D&D game was atrocious! Remind me to only throw one or two puzzles at the guys at a time, not a whole room! Only three out of the eight riddles/puzzles were solved. I think I broke a couple of the guys.

Try this one: hang a picture with wire over two hooks in a manner that, if one of those hooks happened to disappear, the painting would fall because it was not supported by the other hook.

People Are Strange

I submitted my Overcast With A Chance Of DOOM! comics to The Stranger, one of the two weekly publications in Seattle, but they never got back to me. Not even to say, “your comics suck.” I would have tried the Seattle Weekly but they don’t run comics anymore because of budget cuts. But I really want to get my strips in a paper. So I recently inquired about their ad rates for small businesses. They’re decent but still too expensive for a guy with no budget. If I ran four small comics [a different one each week] for four weeks, it would end up costing me $600. That would also give my ad 40,000 page views on their website.

I can’t imagine how much traffic that would send me or how many people would tell me that they’re happy to see a “normal” comic in the paper. I wonder how many readers I would gain by placing an ad.

Do you think it’s worth it?

Beg the Question

Just picked up a book at the discount bookstore down the street. It’s called “Beg The Question” by Bob Fingerman. Printed by Fantagraphics Books. It’s got some really REALLY good comic art. You can tell the guy drew from life very often. I wish I had that kind of variety in my characters. The use of one grey tone is fantastic. I’m going to have to learn what his process was to get it. Was it on the computer or did he use those old Zip-A-Tone sheets. Probably computer seeing as how clean everything is… except for the story!

Oh yeah, the book is very adult themed, so nobody under 18!

I’ve only gotten a couple chapters in so I don’t know how the story works out but so far it is a very well written slice-of-life. Can’t wait to finish it and stare at the drawings.

Excellent album!

I’m listening to the newest Aesthetic Perfection album and it’s unbelievably awesome. There is such a wide variety of tracks that it almost makes me think I am listening to different bands! But they know exactly how to pull it all together and make it cohesive.

I rate every single track I buy from every album [except movie soundtracks] from one star to five in iTunes. One star means I can’t even listen to the entire track without wanting to pluck out my eardrums, place them in my mouth, and grind them to a bloody mess of pulp. All the tracks I rate a one get deleted for good. A two star means I can listen to the whole track out of sheer courtesy but don’t ever really want to listen to it again. Sometimes I get rid of these but keep others to maintain the integrity of the an album. Most every track gets a three star because I see it as an average song. Most EBM songs get this rating. To give a rating of four means I would probably attempt to play said track at the club. It has something to it that I like a lot. Giving a five to a track means I would definitely play it at the club no matter what. These are the club hits, even if the people dancing have never heard it before.

I will rate every single track on All Beauty Destroyed a four or a five. I haven’t done anything like that since Assemblage 23′s Storm in 2004. I am that happy with it.
